MUSIC VIDEOS HAVE THE OBVIOUS FUNCTION OF ENTERTAINGING THE VIEWERS BUT OTHER FUNCTIONS OF A MUSIC VIDEO IS TO:

PROMOTE- New artists need that début video to promote their sound, their look, the genre and show the viewers what they are all about. 

Début videos allows the viewers to familiarise themselves and judge whether they like the song or not, and if they are willing to buy a copy of their first album.

Music videos don’t only promote the song but promote the artists too. Artists tend to make a huge appearance when showcasing themselves for the first time. As artists they are a brand and so music videos help enforce that brand on the viewers. 

If artists become successful in the chart their songs help promote an upcoming album. Viewers get to hear many many songs from them increasing their popularity overall.
