Something extra.

Pop singer Rihanna has a new video out and I thought I would quickly comment on it. The video for 'We Found Love' is below :




I like many things about this video but the main thing is the narrative. The video clearly shows the dysfunctional relationship Rihanna and her boyfriend have , through the editing and different shots and locations. The video begins with a narrator giving a speech, I like this part of the video as it adds something extra - in relation to our video I think this could be something to think about adding. I really like the styling in this video , its very trendy. I hope that the outcome of our video is similar with a clear narrative and perfect styling.

Analysis of original vidoe: Estelle - wait a minute

Estelle's video was an narrative video which shows Estelle on a Friday night in a club having fun and being very flirtatious with the opposite sex. Estelle gets the man to want to bring her back to his house, but she teases him as she does not enter the house and gives him a peck on the cheek to reflect the lyrics 'just a touch'.The video contains a range of different camera shots and angels such as jump cuts, long shots, close ups, slow panning.

Our video will be different from thew official video as the main character will look completely different, she will look more modern and less disco. It will include two more characters which will be her friends. The setting of the video will be not in a club therefore will be taken in the London streets. Our shots that we a re going to incorporate in are  music video will be moire exciting and dramatic. We are hopefully planning to do slow motions and add effects to our video.

Skills audit

During my As projects, I felt more independent, in terms of getting familiar with the technology's and research being used, at first I was uncertain with most of this, but then I got used to it.
I have also learnt how manage a time table appropriately, so that I could work on schedule. I also learnt how to use different research resources such as: Magazines, TV, internet, films, and other peoples feedbacks. 

I also Learnt that planning is very important, to know who your audiences are what stereotypically fits there type of genre. I realised social network, asking people around and drawing up spider diagrams, would help a lot.  
Within my As production, I have developed my embedding skills, as I mostly look up on YouTube for most of my music research.

Overall I feel that my skills have developed a lot more compared to how they were in As, and I feel that I could work in a much quicker pace!

3 music videos that have influenced the final planning

 Cher Lloyd - With Your Love
 This video is very similar to what we are trying to create. The three friends walking down the street whilst one performs the song  is exactly what we aim to have in our video. The outfit choices and mise en scene in this video is inspiring and given us help for our video ideas.

Dionne Bromfield - Mama Says
 The narrative in this video has influenced the groups planning as it gives us an idea on how to create the perfect narrative video. The video shows her getting a message saying that there is a party , so her and her friends go shopping and end up at the party. This shows us how to properly show a story within a music video.



 
Cassie - Long Way To Go
The beginning of this video is exactly what we aim to achieve. The way in which it shows her getting ready and called by her friends is what we look to do within our video. It gets the point across without taking up too much time / adding in way to much detail. The mise en scene in the bedroom has influenced our intended mise en scene - and hopefully we can re create our own version of this successfully.

What Did I Learn In AS


Doing my AS coursework I felt very independent and i was able to utilise the new skills I learnt from the tutorial lessons and as group to benefit my work as a whole. 

  • I learned how to plan, and make timetables in order to have a precise time management. 
  • To use different research resources; magazines, films, tv, internet, other peoples views
  • To create spider diagrams of relevant ideas and write up a brief plan
I think the skill I have developed the most is my planning skills. I have learnt that this is very very crucial. (i mean very crucial) in creating a well produced project. In AS we didn't plan very well, but when we gained help from our previous media teachers, on how to create tables on who is doing what, and planning our time and location, we came to find out that it was much easier for us to follow a step by step procedure. It saved us a lot of time instead of planning as we go along. 

In terms of research skills, i developed my ability to use sources around me. Such as looking at adverts, or posters or billboards and being aware of the media around me. This helped me in noting down possible ideas which i could in-corporate into my groups project. So now I am about to create a music video, I need to adapt the same awareness, by watching out for music videos, and advertising on posters, buses and researching music websites of artists.

The outlook of the website of the original artist (Estelle) looks very eye catchy and sleek, as the colours that have been used are mostly purple, black, white and shades of pink and images of her modelling in very fashionable and glamorous trends which compliments her looks and style and also promotes her very well. Also in her official website her music playing on the side, this promotes the artists music.

 The official website is also very interactive, which gives you a variety of choices to click and browse through, for example she gives her latest updates on her tours, feed backs, etc.. she even has a blog page where she could interact with her fans!
You could also join in and find out all the latest news from Estelle, this is very essential for her fans!
As Estelle's official website is is very interactive, it won't bore you, it includes snappy information from where you could download her music (iTunes).
I feel that Estelle's official website is a success, and shows the genre she is apart of - R'n'B; her website is also made to be attractive and not too wacky or tacky!

Analysis of the original artists website.

Estelles official website has a very basic layout and purple & white colour scheme. By doing this it promotes her as being sophisticated and a serious artist. The website also shows the genre in which she is apart of - RnB. In the main image we see Estelle dressed in typical RnB clothing , which promotes her self image.

The website has many ways of promoting Estelle and her image, as seen in the images below.


She has a blog which allows her to communicate with her fans and they can communicate back with her by commenting. 


The website has links to her music and tours. This again allows the person visiting the site to find out if she has any new songs, as well as listening to new ones and allows them to try and see her perform live.

These Music videos have inpired because of the fact that we took on broad that, we would have three girls (friends) spending a good time together, and out of these three girls, one of them is the solo artist singing.

We also took the idea's of what to wear, which is very stylish and girly, eg. high heels.

Analysis of original video, how it will differ from our production.


In this video it show's Estelle (the main artist) in a night club and hanging around with guys, however our video is going to be a disjuncture, meaning the lyrics do not contradict with the video. Instead having shots of a night club we are going to film in daylight.
We have also decided that our video theme would be urban meets glamorous.
Our production would also have two girls along with the (Caroline) artist her self, in the in the video.

Planning: How Estelle promotes her image and songs.

Estelle has her own website for her fans top go on so that they can stay up to date with her recent music tracks and videos. On her website she has a 'bio' page where her fans get get to know a little bit more about her and her lifestyle and how she became famous. This is a great way to win over peoples love and respect as when they know more about the artist that they didn't know before they are drawn to like them ever more.
Estelle uses the internet such as social network, and video websites to stay in contact with her fans so she is able to update them on any new upcoming events that she will be doing. She takes pictures of herself during her everyday life, not only when she on the 'red' carpet but when she is in her own comfort zone e.g her house. Estelle records herself doing normal daily things for example going out on the high street, filming herself in another country.

Having a website is always a good thing especially for an artists. It gives them a chance to sell and promote their material to the world as they are able to to interact with them more, Television shows like '106 & park' is an American TV show that helps artist and especially upcoming artist promote and sell their single/album. This is because it gives not only UK people a chance to sup[port but also worldwide and recognize her for her talent. It enables people to vote for Estelle and help her sell her track.

Dione bromfield - mama said influenced us because the idea of having three friends together we really liked it also gave us great ideas on how to create a perfect narrative video. The video shows her getting a message saying that there is a party , so her and her friends go shopping and end up at the party. It made us think on how we are going to create a great story line. 





This video gave us the ideoa to have three characters in the music video. This is because we want to create a friendly vibe, calm and energetic. However the outfit choice gave us an idea of what kind of image we want to create and that isnt the image that we are or want to go for.


 
Cassie's video inspired us because it  gave us a great idea on what we want our costumes to look like, we want to go for the 'covered' look, as we feel that women can still look sexy covered up. The leather jacket we really liked the look off.
